There are beach holidays, and then there are beach
holidays in Thailand. >
IF you want nothing more than to devote yourself to
some serious sun worshipping, then you could be disappointed,
but only because no matter which resort you choose,
there's always the promise of much, much more.
Thai beaches, such as those of Phuket and Krabi are
world famous, and little wonder. The term 'island paradise'
is bandied around a lot when it comes to destinations,
but when nature plays a hand like this, it seems to
be the only description that fits. From the luxurious
sands to the inviting ocean waters and the stunning
scenery that frames it all, you'll find coastal Thailand
irresistibly perfect and with a surprise around every
corner.
The beauty of a Thai beach holiday is the sheer variety
on offer, and with a regular and affordable network
of internal flights, getting around to mix things up
a little isn't a problem. When you've had your fill
of diving and watching the local marine life, you can
jet off to a quiet corner and relax under a palm tree,
or find the perfect beach bar to enjoy a cocktail or
two as the sun goes down.
Phuket and Krabi are just two of the highlights of
the west coast, sophisticated and modern beach resorts
with a fine tradition of hospitality. Phuket boasts
the stunning Phang Nga Bay and the shady escape of jungle
walks, whilst Krabi enjoys the awesome rock formations
that tower above you as you swim.
The east coast has equally desirable destinations.
The islands of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan have been joined
by Koh Tao as a popular lure for sunseekers, whilst
the mangrove swamp of
Koh Chang offers a verdant getaway for the more reclusive.
Hua Hin is another beach highlight. A coastal town
with winding streets, you can really lose yourself as
you watch the brightly lit fishing boats on the Gulf
of Thailand. It's the oldest beach resort in the country,
and its tradition of providing a haven to those who
seek it remains irresistible to this day.
A much more lively affair are the beaches at Pattaya,
a sandy playground on the east coast with all the facilities
of a big city coupled with the most enjoyable aspects
of beach life. Pattaya exudes a sense of fun and is
arguably the most cosmopolitan place in the country
next to Bangkok.
Thailand has literally thousands of miles of beaches,
and of every conceivable variety. Whether you want somewhere
packed and lively to party, remote and tranquil to reflect,
the chance to go island hopping, or just to lie undisturbed
and soak up the sun, there's a beach for everyone.
Dramatic cliffs, solitary hammocks hanging between
palm trees, curious tropical fish that swim up to you
in the crystal waters, ancient caves... there's never
just sun and sand to enjoy, there's a whole new world
to marvel at.
